stockholm & skansen museum & zoo

So, I went to Stockholm again. As I've mentioned before I have two aunts who live there, which makes visits to the capital a frequent occurrence. My sister who lives in Japan is home right now, so we've been visiting family & friends a lot during the last couple of weeks, as well as going on day trips to different places. This Saturday we combined these two things, and my sister, mum, grandma, grandpa and my aunts met up in Stockholm. After a fika (coffee pause...!) at the place of one of my aunts, we decided to visit Skansen, which is an outdoor museum and zoo on the island Djurgården in Stockholm. It shows how people in different areas of Sweden lived before the industrial revolution and is also home to several different Scandinavian animal species. I've been to Skansen many times before, but it's always lovely to re-visit.

These are only two of the many different houses and cottages around.

I didn't manage to get many photos of the animals, partly because I hadn't brought my larger camera lens and therefore couldn't zoom enough, but here are some grey seals and a bear. We also saw wolves, elks, lynxes, wild boars, and many other animals. Another reason why it's not very easy to take decent photographs of the animals is that they all have very large living areas and that they'll sometimes be very far off, or behind some trees, bushes or cliffs. I think this is brilliant though, as I'm otherwise a bit skeptical towards zoos. At Skansen the animals have a lot of space to roam around and they can live very much like they do in the wild, which I think is great.

After the Skansen visit we took the ferryboat back to the more central parts of Stockholm. The clouds looked menacing, but the evening stayed lovely.

Then it was time for dinner. We found a rather nice French bistro, where I went for a bouillabaisse.

After dinner we went back to my aunt's place for some coffee before going home again. As always in Stockholm, and as always with my dear family, it was a lovely day!

I hope you enjoyed reading!

Love, Mimmi.
